We just implemented a 2x2 Video Wall (4 HDMI 4k TV-screens) into one of our shows. It is currently run by a PC, but we need to switch to a Mac for 'safety' reasons (mostly software; getting away from sketchy programs and run everything from QLab). Hooking up a 2x2 Video Wall to a Mac proved to be way harder than we could have imagined and we are now stuck! This is a bit out of my 'comfort zone', and no tech company has been quite able to help me find an answer to this. Naturally, I have searched the internet for answers - but the technical terms are so similar that I now feel overwhelmed and slightly disillusioned. I put my hope in you! These are some of the products we have looked into: • (can we run two from the same computer? Matrox hardware and software solutions contribute to all video wall approaches including digital signage, control rooms, security, and more. 4K and 8K Real-Time Encoding AV Distribution AV over IP Control Room Digital Signage House of Worship Mac Multi-Monitor OEM & Developer Toolkits Security Video Display Wall Workstation Productivity. They say no, internet says otherwise) • - can we use two of these? Sonnet has got a similar product, Maybe that one will do it? • - does the trick, but quite poorly and circumstantial according to a reseller. • Mac Pro 'Trashcan', has support for up to six thunderbolt monitors, but only 2-3 4k HDMI screens. Is it possible to downscale resolution, tricking the computer to think the screens are not in 4k? We tried using the but could not get it to work. I would be super thankful for any input you might have. Or maybe you have a contact that might be able to help us? Best regards, Min1k • • • • •. For your last question, you should be able to just set the resolution of each display to 1080p (plug in one at a time) so that your total resolution is 4x 1080p, not 4x 4k. I'm not sure what the actual resolution limits are, but since that's the same number of total pixels I imagine you'll be fine. If you have that Mac Pro, I feel like you should be able to just use 4 thunderbolt to HDMI adapters, but I haven't done this myself. If there's a limit specifically for having more than 3x HDMI screens, you can output DVI and then just passively adapt to HDMI because they're the same video signal.
